Graphic design
Graphic design is a discipline that combines creativity and technique to convey a message visually. Yet even the most experienced designers can make mistakes that affect the quality of their work.
We’ve picked out five common mistakes and explain how to avoid them:
1. Using too many different fonts
Yes, mixing different typefaces can make a design confusing and messy. This is detrimental to visual harmony and distracts attention from the main message.
We recommend that you limit yourself to two or even three complementary fonts. For example, you can combine one font for headings, another for body text and (possibly) a third for accents.
2. Ignore white space
Filling every corner of a design with visual elements can make it difficult to read.
To avoid this, we recommend leaving white space to give your composition breathing space. This will help prioritize information and give an impression of sophistication.
3. Choosing the wrong colors
Using color combinations that don’t work together or don’t respect the brand’s identity is a mistake to be avoided.
4. Neglecting image resolution
All too often we see low-resolution images that appear blurred or pixelated in print or on screen. This is unprofessional.
Vector formats are preferable for logos and complex graphics.
5. Forget the target audience
Designing for personal taste rather than the needs and expectations of the target audience is a big mistake to avoid! Before you start, define your target audience. Ask yourself questions like: What are their tastes? Their needs? This will help you create an effective and relevant design.
By avoiding these mistakes, you can produce more impactful and professional designs. Remember, graphic design is all about communicating an idea clearly and with style. So take the time to plan, experiment and always review your work with a critical eye. If you’d like a more-than-perfect graphic design, contact us at direction@pandacom.be.
